Benedict Arnold program

MANCHESTER -- At 7 p.m., professor Paul Andriscin will give a presentation about Benedict Arnold at the First Congregational Church. Andriscin, a history professor at Castleton State College, will talk about Arnold, who was an American Revolutionary War general but defected to the British Army in 1780. Arnold’s wartime actions included the capture of Fort Ticonderoga in 1775 and defensive and delaying tactics during the unsuccessful Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain in 1776.

This event is cohosted by the Manchester and Dorset Historical Societies. Ye Olde Tavern has sponsored this program their behalf. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow. Visit www.manchesterhistoricalsocietyvt.org for more information. Pownal American Legion

POWNAL -- The Installation of Pownal American Legion officers for 2013-2014 will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Pownal American Legion Post 90. This will be for the American Legion, Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion. They welcome all members and the public is invited.

There will be a potluck dinner following Installation. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share. Come and welcome the new officers and support the veteran’s programs in the community.

Spring concerts at MAU

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Music Department will present spring concerts: The MAUHS Choirs, directed by Lynn Sweet, will present a spring concert on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in the MAU auditorium. The concert will feature the MAU Choir, Chamber Choir and Da Capos. Admission is free.

The MAUHS bands directed by Marjorie Rooen, will present a spring concert on Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m. in the MAU auditorium. The concert will feature the MAU Concert Band and Jazz Band. Admission is free.

Committed volunteers needed
