Earth Day in Manchester

MANCHESTER -- The Equinox Preservation Trust is pleased to celebrate Earth Day 2013 today with a series of free, family-friendly nature activities.

Randy Schmidt of the Vermont Bird Place and Sky Watch will lead a birding walk through the forest to the Equinox Pond (8:30 to 9:45 a.m.), Anthony Cirelli of Burr and Burton Academy will offer tips on taking great outdoor photos (9 to 10 a.m.), Kyle Leard, instructor at the Orvis Fly fishing school, will teach an introductory course on casting and fly fishing basics at the Equinox Pond (10 to 11:30 a.m.), and Equinox Preserve intern Jessica Baker will lead an interpretive hike testing your knowledge of Vermont natural history ("Are You Smarter Than a Porcupine?," 10:30 to11:30 a.m.).

An on-going nature scavenger hunt (9 to 11 a.m.) will also be offered for visitors to participate in according to their schedule. Prizes will be awarded to those successfully completing the scavenger hunt. Those interested in the fly fishing workshop must pre-register with the preserve steward (see below). All activities meet at the Red Gate parking lot on West Union Street. Please dress for the weather.
