Monday, Dec. 17 BENNINGTON -- Bennington Senior Center activities today will include oil painting from 9 a.m. to noon; walking aerobics from 10 to 11 a.m.; bridge /cards from 1 to 4 p.m.; belly dance from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; massage from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., call the Senior Center at 802-442-1052 to make an appointment. There will be a trip to the Crossgate Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Elks hosts bingo

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Elks hosts bingo. There will be a $1,000 jackpot and 31 games for $13. Food service will be available. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingto starts at 7 p.m. The Bennington Elks is located at 125 Washington Ave.

Decorating Contest Sponsored by CVCC

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- The Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce is encouraging all village businesses and residents to decorate their storefronts and homes for the holidays. The CVCC will be awarding Chamber Gift Certificates, good for purchases at any chamber business, for the top two homes and businesses. Winners will be selected by an anonymous panel of judges.

Contest judges will be touring the village and making their selections the week of Dec. 17.

Free Ladies Clinics to be offered

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has scheduled a series of free Ladies Clinics to be held on the third Monday of each month from 5 to 8 p.m. The Ladies Clinics will be staffed by local medical practitioners who volunteer their time to provide care to women who do not have health insurance.

Breast, cervical and cardiac health will be addressed at the clinic. Age-appropriate mammograms, PAP tests, and blood tests will be available.

Clinic staff will be available to apply for the Vermont Ladies First program as well as other state health insurance programs.

Appointments for the Ladies' Clinic can be made by calling 802-447-3700. The Bennington Free Clinic is a program of Greater Bennington Interfaith Community Services. BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has added Monday hours, in addition to its Thursday schedule. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church, at 601 Main St. Call for an appointment, 447-3700. Drop-ins will not be seen.

BENNINGTON -- Overeaters Anonymous meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Bennington Free Library.

Spouse bereavement support group

BENNINGTON -- The Sudden Unexpected Death of a Spouse bereavement support group will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Bennington Free Library, 101 Silver St.

How a fixed income affects seniors

RUTLAND -- The trials and tribulations for elders living on a fixed income will be the topic of discussion at the Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging annual meeting. A local financial planner will explain how seniors can find ways to live successfully on a fixed income. There will also be time for audience questions.

SVCOA invites the public to attend this free event on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Rutland Country Club on Grove Street. Presentations will be made about SVCOA's programs and services.

Two community partners will be recognized, Parizo's Champlain Valley Eyecare and the Bennington Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1861. The event will conclude with music from the Potluck Trio. Light breakfast fare will be served. RSVP to SVCOA by calling 802-786-5990 by Dec. 17.

Bingo in Pownal

POWNAL -- Pownal American Legion Post No. 90 offers bingo every Thursday evening. Doors and concession open at 5 p.m. Three will be 30 games including three progressive jackpots, door prizes, raffles, and family fun.

New York 5-Hour Course

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The New York State five-hour prelicensing course, needed to obtain a New York driver's license, will be offered at the Hoosick Falls Central School. Registration is that evening in the high school office. A valid learner's permit and $35 exact cash or check is required. Class begins promptly at 5 p.m.

Bennington Free Clinic

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would other wise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 447-3700 for an appointment to be seen.

Museum ABCs Celebrates "PLAY"

BENNINGTON -- On Thursday, December 20 at 1:30 p. m. Bennington Museum's ABCs presents "PLAY" a special program designed around this special time of year when new toys and playing with them are on every child's mind. Developed and presented in collaboration with the Bennington Free Library, Museum ABCs is a story hour that takes place once each month at 1:30 p.m. in the galleries of the Bennington Museum. Designed especially for children 3 to 5, their parents and caregivers, the programs include stories about the month's topic, visits to galleries in the Bennington Museum to observe and talk about an actual piece(s) of art, and an art or craft activity.

All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Celebrating the magical time created when playing, the group will begin their afternoon by going on a toy hunt in the Grandma Moses Schoolhouse.

BENNINGTON -- Bingo is held at the Masonic Temple, 504 Main St., every Saturday at 6:30 p.m., except major holidays. Doors open at 5 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available.

Christmas pageant called ‘Double Take'

BENNINGTON -- At 10 a. m. there will be a Christmas brunch in the Bennington SDA Church. Following the brunch at 11 a. m. the Forrest Ward Memorial Elementary School will host its Christmas pageant. Church is located at 404 Houghton Lane.

American Legion Post 13 bingo

BENNINGTON -- American Legion Post 13, 225 Northside Drive, will hold bingo. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 3 p.m. every Sunday. No one under 14 will be admitted.
