Senior Center activities
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Senior Center activities will include bone builders from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; quilting from 1 to 3 p.m.; beginning belly dance from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; and a trip to Berkshire Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bingo at Pownal Legion
POWNAL -- Pownal American Legion Post No. 90 offers bingo every Thursday evening. Doors and concession open at 5 p.m. There will be 30 games including three progressive jackpots, door prizes, raffles, and family fun.
’Hidden Battles’ documentary to be shown
GREENWICH, N.Y. -- At 7 p.m., "Hidden Battles" will be screened at the Greenwich Free Library at 148 Main St. The 2011 documentary follows five veterans (from the Unites States and other countries), as they come to terms with their combat experiences.
After the 65-minute film, John R. Ostwald, a Vietnam era veteran, educator, author and therapist, will lead a discussion. Ostwald co-facilitates War Healing Circles, a support group for veterans and their families. To help defray costs, a small donation ($5) is suggested, but not required. Toy collection for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
BENNINGTON -- Resident Tiffany Friend is organizing a special event for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She is collecting new children’s gifts and there are receptacles in local businesses to accept them. She is collecting such new items as crayons, coloring books, games, playing cards, puzzles, DVDS, still-wrapped baby toys, toddler toys and more. No stuffed animals or cloth dolls will be accepted, however. If you wrap the gift, label it as for boy or girl and specify age of the child. Dinner dance fundraiser for Natalie Rupprecht
BENNINGTON -- A dinner dance fundraiser for Natalie Rupprecht, 3, who has Acute Lymphoblastic Luekemia, known as ALL.
She is receiving treatments at Albany Medical Center. The dinner dance will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion, 225 Northside Drive. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.; the price will be $20 per person. The menu will include: Swiss chicken, baked potato, green beans, roll, coffee and dessert. There will be a cash bar from 7 to 9 p.m. and dancing with DJ Denny Kendall. Also featured will be a Chinese auction and raffles.
