Pig roast benefit dinner
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- A pig roast benefit dinner for veteran and biker Don Armstrong will be held at the St. Stanislaw Society from noon to 3 p.m., with hamburgs and hot dogs.
Armstrong is fighting debilitating Lymne disease and lacks insurance coverage for necessary home care and medication. Pig roast dinner to be served at 4 p.m. Live music by several local artists starting at 1 p.m. Chinese auction and 50/50 raffles will be held. Donation is $18. BENNINGTON -- Bingo is held at the Masonic Lodge, 504 Main St., every Saturday at 6:30 p.m., except major holidays. Doors open at 5 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be available.
Annual Clam Feed
POWNAL -- The 17th annual Clam Feed will be held at American Legion Pownal Post 90 on Route 7, from noon to 6 p.m. There will be clams, chowder, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, hot sausage and beverages.
There also will be games of chances and raffles. Tickets limited to 100 sold. No one under 21 years of age. Tickets are $30 per person. For more information and/or tickets, call 802-823-5060.
McWaters Park Forest Garden work party
NORTH BENNINGTON -- The McWaters Park gardeners are planning a work party from 9 a.m. to noon. Join them for fresh baked scones, peach crepes, Frisbee throwing, kite flying and broadforking.

Williamstown Farmers Market
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Williamstown Farmers Market is located in the Spring Street parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. It features a variety of food and non-food products.
Fund celebrates anniversary
NORTH BENNINGTON -- The Fund for North Bennington will host a party at Lake Paran with free music and fireworks to mark its 20th anniversary. Music by the Buzzsaw Boys will start at 7 p.m., with fireworks by Atlas Pyrovision after 9 p.m. Bring a picnic or food will be available for purchase courtesy of Paran Recreations. If there is heavy rain, the event will be held Sunday.
Spring Hill Horse Rescue benefit
EAST DORSET -- Spring Hill Horse Rescue will hold its third annual benefit at the Vermont Summer Festival Horse Show. The fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. in the Grand Prix Pavilion.
The evening will include light refreshments, a silent auction, raffle giveaways, a book signing with Anne Hambleton and special guest speaker Heidi Jo Hauri-Gill from First Choice Riding Academy in Enfield, N.H. Tickets are not required, but donations are appreciated. All proceeds from the event will go directly toward the care of 14 horses and other various farm animals currently residing at Spring Hill Horse Rescue.

POWNAL -- Bingo will be held at 1 p.m. by the Pownal Valley Seniors at the Pownal Center firehouse.
Bennington Battlefield: ‘The War and Women’
GRAFTON, N.Y. -- Take a trip back in time at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site and discover what life was like for women during the Revolutionary War. The summer program titled "The War and Women" will be held at 2 p.m. and will take a look into women’s lives during the Revolutionary War, including learning the language of the fan and a traditional craft.
Come prepared for a hands-on experience to discover what life was like then. This is an introductory class suited for the whole family. There is a $2 program fee per person or $5 per family.

Infant remembered with dinner
POWNAL CENTER -- A spaghetti and meatball, baked ziti dinner in loving memory of Ronald Kenneth George, who tragically lost his life at 28 days old, will be held at the Pownal Center firehouse from 5 to 7 p.m. Adults, $5; children 12 and under, $3.

Pownal road closed Aug. 8
POWNAL -- A portion of Barber Pond Road will be closed for culvert replacement from Route 7 to Niles School Road on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plan accordingly.

Town project list
BENNINGTON -- The town of Bennington project list for the week of Aug. 6 to 10 follows.
Wastewater Department
Monday through Thursday, crews will be repairing sewer manholes on various streets in preparation for upcoming highway work. We will attempt to maintain one-way traffic but this work may necessitate a road closure between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Local traffic should look for Road Closed signs in these areas.
Monday, work will take place on Union Street near the intersection of Hamlin Avenue. Hamlin Avenue will be closed to through traffic. All Hamlin Avenue traffic will need to enter and exit from Imperial Avenue.
Tuesday, work will take place on Coulter Street between Forrest View Drive and Grandview Street. This work may require a road closure.
Wednesday, work will take place on Silver Street between Prospect Street and Crescent Boulevard.
Thursday, work will take place on Silver Street between Grandview Street and Norton Street. Silver Street will be closed to through traffic in this block but local traffic will be accommodated.
Highway Department
Monday to Friday, Union Street will be closed from Main Street to Valentine Street, due to new curb and sidewalk construction. Residents in this area will be allowed to enter and exit their homes. Please use caution, men and equipment will be working in this area.
Tuesday, crews will be performing work on Chapel Road, Settlers Road and Spring Hill Road in preparation for new pavement. Sweeping and joint milling will be taking place at all locations.
Wednesday to Friday, a private contractor will be paving Chapel Road, Spring Hill Road, and Settlers Road. The roads will be closed to through traffic, but residents will be allowed to pass through the work zone if needed. Please use caution, men and equipment will be in the road.
All work will be dependent on weather conditions.
Dessert cabaret at Lake Paran
NORTH BENNINGTON -- The 5th annual Dessert Cabaret at Lake Paran will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. The event features a wide variety of desserts donated from more than a dozen local restaurants and members of the lake association. For $8, attendees can sample all the desserts they wish, with all proceeds benefiting Paran Recreations.
There is also a "fashion show" with local schoolchildren from North Bennington Graded School who will be modeling scarves. Lake manager Marlene Driscoll said the cabaret was always a successful fundraiser where people can have a good time and enjoy their desserts lakeside. Last year, the cabaret drew about 175 people and raised approximately $1,500.
