Peace Resource Center events

BENNINGTON -- The Peace Resource Center will hold its August gathering at 6:15 p.m. at the UU Meeting House on School Street with a potluck supper followed by a business agenda at 7 p.m. Members plan to join the Bennington Battle Day Parade on Aug. 19 and welcome the public to march with them. The August monthly peace vigil is set for Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Four Corners in Bennington at 12:30 p.m. ’Amazing Americans’ at the Milne Library

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Keith Michael Johnson will present "Amazing Americans" at the Milne Public Library at 4 p.m. The hour-long program is full of anecdotes, amusing stories, insights, and artifacts about our collective history. Among the famous Americans featured in Johnson’s show are Ben Franklin and Amelia Earhart, who were featured "dreamers" in the library’s summer reading program. This show is especially good for elementary school ages; the library will hand out summer reading certificates at the end of the presentation.

Bingo at Pownal Legion post

POWNAL -- Pownal American Legion Post No. 90 offers bingo every Thursday evening. Doors and concession open at 5 p.m. There will be 30 games including three progressive jackpots, door prizes, raffles, and family fun.

Bennington Free Clinic

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 447-3700 for an appointment.

Senior Center activities

BENNINGTON -- Bennington Senior Center activities will include bone builders from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; quilting from 1 to 3 p.m.; and beginning belly dance from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Proactive retirement speakers series

MANCHESTER CENTER -- Three talks in August help retirees take charge of retirement living decisions.

The first one, "The Health Benefits of Community Living," with Equinox Village’s Activities/Wellness Coordinator Kylee Ryan, is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Equinox Village. Ryan will relate research and anecdotes from two years of providing community wellness support to illustrate how a community living environment can improve and maintain health. The talk is free and open to the public, although space is limited. Light refreshments will be served. Call Ashley Brenon Jowett at 802-362-4061 to R.S.V.P.

BENNINGTON -- In an article printed in Wednesday’s edition of the Banner, Dakota Burdick’s gender was improperly stated. Burdick is a male.

BENNINGTON -- The name of the author of the Health Matters column in Wednesday’s paper was incorrect. The correct name is Dr. Martin Luloff.

Fundraiser for

Natalie Rupprecht Fund

BENNINGTON -- Please join us in a Cut-a-Thon fundraiser for Natalie Rupprecht, 3, a Bennington resident who has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She is receiving treatments at Albany Medical Center.

The Cut-a-Thon will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at Studio 210 Salon, 210 Union St.

All checks should be made out to Natalie Rupprecht. Hairstylists are teaming up from different area salons for this benefit.
