HOOSICK, N.Y.>>Three new businesses on Church St. in the Town of Hoosick will be debuted and have sales and other offerings Monday night as part of the Hoosick Local Development Corporation (LDC) and "I Heart Hoosick" grand opening celebration event.
Little Sprouts Baby Bump & Beyond at 35 Church St., Shaw's Mobile Repair Services LLC, 43 Church St., and Xentrix Hair Saloon at 39 Church St. will welcome the public from 6 to 8 p.m. for hor d'oeuvres, drinks, business tours and an opportunity to meet the owners and get special deals.
Little Sprouts is a family run consignment store that sells used clothing, toys and accessories from maternity to juniors, which was already established in the town, but at a different location, according to a release from the Hoosick LDC. On Monday, all purchases will be 20 percent off.
Owner Renee Parker originally opened the business last July a few store-fronts down, but now LDC reached out to her and is offering marketing advice.
"I'm definitely excited. Any sort of publicity is great for the new businesses in town," she said."After the water crisis a positive spin in Hoosick Falls is what we need. It's a great thing."
Parker saw a need for providing children's clothes to the community after she found herself traveling elsewhere for consignment sales. She also will buy used items on the spot or exchange for store credit, but only with an appointment made.
"The way kids grow and how messy and crazy they are with their clothes, it doesn't make sense to purchase brand new ones," she explained. "The way the economy is, it just works out for everyone financially."
For rehabilitation to automobiles, lawn mowers, ATVs, motorcycles and other equipment, entrepreneur and Hoosick native Matthew Shaw operates on wheels for his Mobile Repair Services and will provide specials and repair consultations.
Lastly, Jennifer Disorda will be available for consultations and tours at her rustic salon. The licensed beautician and owner will offer cheese, crackers, hors d'oeuvres, iced tea and lemonade for traveling patrons.
Xentrix not only beautify's hair, but also provides waxing and tanning services. The name, crafted when Disorda was in seventh grade, was what she named her business during a school project. She's been doing hair for 18 years and this is her second establishment.
"I think it's great. I think we need it, and then some," she said. "A lot of people are curious, especially about the clothing store and Shaw's Repairs. I've been friends with Matt my entire life."
LDC will have a raffle Monday night for a rustic Hoosick Falls sign that is up for grabs by visiting each business.
"We hope that Hoosick will join with us in welcoming these new businesses on April 18th. We hope this is one of many LDC sponsored "I Heart Hoosick" events," William Johnson, Hoosick LDC chairman said in the release.
Hoosick LDC's mission is "to promote, assist, develop and attract new businesses and industries" in the town, as stated on its website. Assistance, such as guidance, counseling and low interest loans, is provided to those looking to start a business. It's support for small businesses makes this grand opening possible by revitalizing existing organizations and encouraging economic development for the growth of the community.
