MONTPELIER (AP) - The Vermont Legislature's Corrections Oversight Committee is set to get a briefing on the problem of drugs flowing into the state's prisons.

Committee Vice Chairman Sen. Richard Sears says lawmakers have been looking for ways to crack down on the smuggling.

Corrections officials are expected at Thursday's hearing to describe new rules on searches of people and items entering the correctional facilities.

Sears says the heroin replacement drug Suboxone represents more than half the drugs entering the prisons. He says that's because the drug is easier to smuggle than other drugs and can be abused.
