MONTPELIER (AP) - People who are fighting drug and alcohol addiction across Vermont are being told the key to solving the challenge is working together.
Rutland Mayor Chris Louras and others are sharing ideas and trying to find ways to combat the addiction problem. They were at a daylong event at the Statehouse Monday sponsored by the Health Department and United Way of Vermont.
Speaking in the House chamber, Louras said his community's well-known battle against addiction and the challenges that grow out of it is a community and societal issue and unless people are willing to accept that, they are doomed to failure.
The daylong event is bringing together leaders from different sectors of the community to brainstorm possible solutions to the challenge of opiate addiction.
