NORTH ADAMS -- North Adams Police are searching for a suspect involved in an alleged armed robbery on Brayton Hill Terrace Monday night.
Police have described the suspect as a 27-year-old African-American male, approximately 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 in height and with a "skinny build." He is also described as having a Jamaican accent and a severe speech impediment.
The suspect was last seen wearing a 'skull cap' under his baseball hat, jeans and a white T-shirt, according to a "Code Red" emergency alert sent out to city residents by North Adams Police Lt. David Sacco at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The alert stated the suspect was "still at large."
Police responded to the neighborhood after receiving an 911 call reporting an armed robbery on Brayton Hill Terrace at 8:55 p.m. on Monday.
According to a release, the suspect reportedly took a Yellow Cab Co. taxi from Hartford, Conn., to Brayton Hill Terrace and upon arriving at his destination threatened the taxi driver with a knife and demanded the driver turn over all of his money.
"The driver was able to stop the robbery and the suspect fled the scene. No money was taken. The suspect only took the taxi driver's cell phone during the robbery. The taxi driver received very minor cuts to his hand from the knife," the release states.
Police searched the area for several hours with the help of the Massachusetts State Police Community Action Team; the Williamstown Police Department K-9 team, as well as the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and Crime Scene services.
The report states the taxi driver's injuries were minor and did not require medical attention.
