SCHAGHTICOKE - Police have taken a 22-year-old Albany-area man into custody after his stepfather was found bludgeoned to death and his mother was found severely beaten.
At 8 p.m. Thursday, State Police in Brunswick report they were dispatched to a 911 call from a distraught female at 1445 State Route 40 in the Town of Schaghticoke. State troopers arrived within minutes of the 911 call and discovered one male and one female on the front lawn of the residence, both victims of an assault.
Troopers pulled the victims to a safe location amid reports a suspicious subject was still in the area.
The male victim, 62-year-old Michael A. Matala was transported by Hoosick Valley Rescue Squad to St. Mary's Hospital in Troy where he was pronounced dead. His wife, 58-year-old Cynthia Matala suffered severe head injuries and was transported by Hoosick Valley Rescue Squad to Samaritan Hospital in Troy and later transferred to Albany Medical Center Hospital in critical condition.
State police determined that 22-year-old Anthony Repp, the son of Cynthia Matala, was a person of interest and had been at the residence prior to the assault.
