Police: Sleeping driver causes crash
WOODFORD -- State Police said a teenage driver who fell asleep at the wheel was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Sunday during icy road conditions.
According to police at 4 p.m. Jordan Mantello, 17, of Troy, N.Y., was driving a Cadillac Deville west on Route 9 when he fell asleep. His car went into the other lane and hit a 2000 Subaru Legacy being driven by Jollene Mahon, 35, of West Dover, Vt. Mahon's vehicle spun around and collided with a 2008 Nissan truck being driven by Richard Setzer, 28, of Bennington. Police said Mahon suffered a possible neck injury. She, Mantello, and two of his passengers were taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington to evaluation. Each vehicle was heavily damaged and considered totaled. The crash is still being investigated, according to Vermont State Police Trooper Lauren Ronan.

Foul weather leads to crash on Route 9
WOODFORD -- State Police said a New York teen crashed his 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Sunday afternoon while trying to avoid another vehicle that was sliding on the slippery, sleet-covered road.
Police said the crash happened on Route 9 at 4:30 p.m. The driver, Ryan M. Jones, 17, of Schuylerville, N.Y., and his passenger, Ross Burch, 16, of Greenwich, N.Y., were not injured. Jones left the road when his attempts to stop caused his vehicle to slide, hit an embankment and turn onto its roof.
