HOOSICK, N.Y - A gas tanker rolled on Route 7 in Hoosick just before noon Wednesday, sending the truck down a 30-foot embankment into a small tributary.
State Police in Brunswick are investigating the crash that occurred one mile west of Route 22 at 11:50 a.m. Police said the driver was eastbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and struck a guardrail and telephone pole. It then went down a 30-foot embankment into the Shingle Hollow, which flows into the Hoosic River.
Police said the driver, who has not been identified, was first transported by ambulance to Albany Medical Center before being airlifted to the Westchester County Medical Center's burn unit. The driver suffered burns to his head and should area, police said.
State officials are at the scene because gasoline from the tanker has spilled into the waterway, according to police.
Route 7 remained closed between Babcock Lake Road and Route 22 as of 2:30 p.m.
