SHAFTSBURY -- Police report that a Bennington man was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Shaftsbury Hollow Road on Wednesday at about 1:30 p.m.
According to State Police, Ernest Palencsar, 77, was driving his 2002 Honda CRV on the slightly snow-covered road when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the edge of the roadway. After driving down a steep embankment, Palencsar's vehicle struck a large tree, police said.
Palencsar sustained an injury to his left leg and ribs during the crash, and he had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Shaftsbury Fire Department. Palencsar was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for his injuries. His vehicle suffered extensive damage to the driver side front door and fender, police said.
The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate this crash.
