Police said they discovered Keith F. Gates, 44, with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening after authorities made entry into the home with robotic surveillance equipment. In a written release late Monday, state police said the standoff began after a report of a domestic dispute at the home.
Upon the arrival of officers, police said Gates made threats toward himself and police and refused to exit the residence. Police said he fired "several rounds from a long gun out of the rear of the residence."
The incident caused traffic on Route 22 to be re-routed around the scene in North Hoosick for most of the day. Gates was found in an upstairs bedroom in grave condition and was transported to Albany Medical Center where he died the next day.
