Alarm scares off burglar

ARLINGTON - State police said it appears as though a Crow Hill Road home was spared a burglary when the alarm system activated.

According to Trooper Robert Zink, of the Vermont State Police, troopers responded to the home of Charles Baker Sunday at 3 p.m. because the alarm company had alerted them.

Zink said it appeared as though at least one vehicle left the area quickly. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 802-442-5421.

Prescription meds, flashlight, stolen from vehicle

POWNAL - Police said someone stole a flashlight and prescription medication from a vehicle on Jackson Cross Road sometime around 8 p.m. Friday.

The vehicle belonged to Margaret Tobin.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 802-442-5421 and advise people to keep their car doors and houses locked when not attended.

Fight leads to underage drinking citations

SHAFTSBURY - State police said an alleged assault led them to cite several underage people for drinking, and one for marijuana possession.

Police said that shortly before midnight they were called to a home on Route 7A for a reported fight. Police did not say how many juveniles were present or how many were cited, nor did they specify their ages. The fight is still being investigated.

Car hits stone wall, deck

ARLINGTON - A car collided with a house Saturday, according to state police, leaving the elderly driver with injuries.

Cpl. Gary Shuhart, of the Vermont State Police, said the crash happened at 11:15 a.m. on Route 313. Ann M. Beck, 85, of Manchester, was driving a 2010 Volkswagen SUV when it left the roadway, went into a ditch, and hit a stone wall and deck belonging to Christine Meyer, 62.

Beck was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center by the Arlington Rescue Squad. The Arlington Fire Department also assisted. Shuhart said Beck was unsure about what caused her to leave the road, and the crash is being investigated.
