POWNAL -- A Bennington woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation last week after her car hit a moose while she was traveling south on Route 7 on July 17.
Game Warden Travis Buttle said the crash occurred at 4:15 a.m. near the Pownal View Barn. The moose, a three or four year-old cow weighing between 450 and 550 lbs was thrown up over a sedan being driven by Vicki Sprague, 54. The animal was killed, Buttle said, while Sprague did not appear to have suffered severe injuries.
He said about 180 lbs of meat was salvaged and given to a person on a list he keeps of those wanting game meat salvaged from road kill or illegal kills. Buttle said he distributes it based on who he can reach the quickest.
