POWNAL - A mother and son from Bennington suffered only bumps and bruises in a single vehicle crash on Route 7 Monday that sent the car flying an estimated 25 feet over guardrails.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash at the Pownal and Bennington town line at around 7:30 p.m., in which the driver, Jessica Crawford, 29, said a malfunction with her 2002 Subaru Impreza caused her to lose control of the vehicle. Crawford told police the car drove off the roadway into a culvert and then went airborne. The vehicle came to a stop behind the guardrails.

Crawford and her 10-year-old son were wearing seat belts and suffered only bumps and bruises, police said. They were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for precautionary reasons, police said.

Police said the crash is still under investigation.
