The Vermont State Police said the raid, which occurred about 7 a.m. Tuesday, was the result of a routine traffic stop by Trooper Wayne Godfrey on County Street. Godfrey saw drug paraphernalia inside the car while speaking to the driver, 19-year old Mason Ingraham. A search turned up felony amount of powder cocaine, police said. Ingraham and 19-year-old Shauna Poole, a passenger in the car, were arrested and released with citations to appear in court.
Police said they then obtained a search warrant for a residence at 306 Grove Street. Witnesses said police executed the search warrant around 7 a.m., breaking down the door and entering with weapons drawn.
Three more people were taken into custody, according to police. Charged with felony counts of possessing and distributing narcotics were Duran Foster, 24, of Bennington; Royan Wint, 26, of Bennington; and Felicha Young, 24, of Sunapee, N.H.
Police said they seized felony amounts of powder cocaine and crack cocaine. They also seized a shotgun, several thousand dollars in cash and a vehicle owned by Wint that police believe was used to distribute drugs.
Forester, Wint and Young were held the Marble Valley Correctional Facility in Rutland on $100,000 bail. They are expected to be arraigned today in Bennington Superior Court Criminal Division.
