Democrat Joanne Yepsen, the Saratoga Springs supervisor, deserves the support of New York voters in the 43rd Senate District over incumbent Republican Sen. Roy McDonald.

With the anticipated election of Democrat Andrew Cuomo as governor -- as he faces only embarrassingly unqualified opposition from the Republican candidate -- Ms. Yepsen is best suited to assist in Mr. Cuomo's efforts to reform New York state government.

Unlike her opponent, she also has no history of involvement in the gridlock that has long stymied reforms in Albany.

We also endorse incumbent New York Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles E. Schumer, both of whom have served the state well and defended its interests in Congress.

In the 20th Congressional race in New York state, incumbent freshman Democrat Scott Murphy is in a tight race against Republican Chris Gibson.

The 20th district covers 10 counties, including Rensselaer and Washington, in the eastern half of the state. The race is close, with a recent poll showing the challenger ahead with less than a week to go before the election after trailing previously.

Rep. Murphy in his first term has shown himself an articulate and independent voice for New Yorkers and an advocate for business development, as well as conservative on spending and the federal debt. He deserves re-election.
