Tuesday, November 20 BENNINGTON — The Capitol Christmas tree celebration kicked off at the Vermont Veterans Home Monday morning when area residents joined several dignitaries to dedicate this year's tree to all of the nation's veterans. Tuesday, August 7 BENNINGTON — The groundskeeper of the Capitol in Washington chose the Vermont tree Monday that will stand at the Capitol during the upcoming holiday season. Capitol Grounds Superintendent Theodore Bechtol chose a 50- to 55-foot balsam fir located near the Somerset Reservoir in Windham County from a pre-selected set of trees in the Green Mountain National Forest.   Full Story

BENNINGTON — Local officials are hoping to extend the Christmas season by several months this year to help promote and raise funds for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, which will hail from Southern Vermont this year. BENNINGTON — The 2006 Capital Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington D.C. took place in front of the Capitol Building on Wednesday, and there were at least two Bennington representatives on hand. Joann Erenhouse and Lindy Lynch were at the tree lighting ceremony to take notes for next year's celebration, which will be produced by Bennington - a fourth-time honor for the city.   Full Story
