ARLINGTON -- Dwalin DeBoer, business unit director of Orthopaedics & Disposable Medical Devices, has been selected by a panel of judges at Vermont Business Magazine to join its cadre of Vermont Rising Stars. The list is comprised of 40 winners under the age of 40 and was selected from over 120 nominations.

"The judges had a difficult time getting it down to only 40," said VBM Publisher John Boutin. "These young professionals have chosen to make Vermont their home. For them, it's not just about business; it's about making a difference in their communities."

For DeBoer, community support involves youth sports and education in Bennington, where she lives with her husband, Brad, and children, Callum, 8, and Tyler, 6. She has served as assistant coach for Bennington Soccer for three years.

DeBoer is also serving her second two-year term as vice president of AIM (Adults Interested in Monument), the Monument School PTA. In that role, she spearheaded the development of a summer camp fair, now an annual event that pairs parents with available summer camp opportunities for their children. "I am involved in the community as much as possible and have spent many a late night planning school and community functions," she says.

A chemical engineer, DeBoer educated at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, Mass.), joined Mack 12 years ago. Before that, she followed a more traditional chemical engineering career path, working for Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, GE Plastics (now Sabic), and Monsanto Plastics. Since then, she has broadened her experience base by working in several functional areas at Mack, including sales, molding and manufacturing. Most recently, she was promoted to head up MackMedical's new business unit that focuses on the orthopedic and disposable medical device markets.

DeBoer will be honored along with the 39 other honorees at the Rising Stars dinner on Thursday, Nov. 8, in South Burlington. The group will also be featured in a special program in the November issue of Vermont Business Magazine.
