JRC taps Dewey to lead N.Y. newspapers

YARDLEY, Pa. (AP) -- Journal Register Company has named Jan Dewey publisher of its New York group of newspapers.

Dewey, who most recently was advertising director at the Poughkeepsie Journal, will oversee operations at The Saratogian in Saratoga Springs, The Record in Troy, the Daily Freeman in Kingston and The Daily Dispatch in Oneida. She’ll be based in Kingston and will run the company’s non-daily publications. She spent 20 years at the Poughkeepsie paper, owned by Gannett.

Ira Fusfeld, publisher in Kingston for the past 25 years, has been named publisher emeritus. He joined the Freeman staff in 1970 as a sports writer.

The announcement was made by Jeff Bairstow, president of Journal Register Company and Digital First Media.

Yardley, Pa.-based Journal Register Company has more than 350 multi-platform products in 10 states.
