Police: Sandgate woman caused accident

ARLINGTON -- Police said an 87-year-old Sandgate resident allegedly caused an accident in Arlington after she pulled out in front of traffic.

State police reported the accident occurred Saturday at approximately 3:47 p.m., at the intersection of Route 313 and Sandgate Road. While responding, police said they were advised by one of the involved drivers that the other motorist had left the scene. When they arrived, police spoke to Kimberly Reed, 44, of Rocky Hill, Conn., who stated that she was driving east on Route 313 when a red Subaru Forester pulled out of Sandgate Road directly in front of her.

Police said Reed told them she drove off the road to avoid colliding with the Subaru, which caused damage to property and Reed's black Chevy Suburban. Reed told police she confronted the driver of the Subaru, identified as Anna Sullivan of Sandgate, down the road at the Wayside Country Store, where Sullivan left without exchanging information.

After investigation, police said they located Sullivan as the operator of the Subaru. Police said she was not charged in connection with the accident.

Bennington Police remind residents to take precautions

BENNINGTON -- Following recent thefts from motor vehicles and one burglary in the area of Imperial Avenue and Grandview Street, police are asking residents to report incidents and to take precautionary measures.

In a written statement, police Lt. Lloyd Dean asked residents who believed their vehicle or house had been broken into to contact the police, if they had not done so already. Officer John Behan is working on several leads on the recent thefts, he said.

Secondly, police are reminding all residents, regardless of where they live, to remove valuables from their vehicles when leaving them parked, even in driveways, and to lock the car. "Leaving your valuables in plain view in your unlocked vehicle is an invitation to be a theft victim," Dean said. When leaving their residence, police are reminding people to lock their doors.

Drugs found after vehicle stop, police say

BENNINGTON -- Police reported a motor vehicle stop Saturday which resulted in drug possession charges for three Bennington residents.

Police said all three were processed at the Bennington County Sheriff's Department and released upon citations. The traffic stop occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on North Street. The operator of the vehicle, 21-year-old Javery Hattat, was charged for possession of marijuana, cocaine, and prescription pills. Both passengers, 18-year-old Alexander Stevens and Athena Michaels, 17, were both in possession of marijuana and cocaine, police said. All three are due in court in August.
